Fresh from the Daniels Farmstead organic garden is a variety of herbs, carrots, kale, curly kale, Red Russian & Dinosaur Swiss chard, bok choy, lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, beets, peppers, zucchini, and tomatoes.

Doris's Kitchen will be open from 11:30 to 2:00, serving up grilled franks, Angus beef burgers, veggie burgers, Italian sausage with peppers & onion, chips, plus an absolutely delicious assortment of baked goods. 100% of proceeds from Doris's Kitchen go towards the preservation of the historic Daniels Farmstead.

Try this delicious and easy Tomato Soup!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 3 lbs fresh, ripe tomatoes

  • 4 cloves garlic - peeled

  • ½ onion - diced

  • ½ red bell pepper - diced

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • ½ tsp dried basil

  • ½ tsp dried oregano

  • 2 cups chicken broth

  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs - basil/parsley/oregano

  • ½ cup heavy cream - optional garnish

  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese - optional garnish

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F.

  • Wash and cut tomatoes (cut in half for smaller apricot-sized tomatoes, cut larger tomatoes into quarters or eighths).

  • Place tomatoes, garlic, onion, bell pepper, olive oil, salt, pepper, and dried herbs on a large pan.

  • Roast for 25 minutes, stirring after 15 minutes. Turn the oven to broil and broil 3-4 minutes or until some of the tomatoes get a little bit of char color on them.

  • Bring chicken broth to a boil, add tomatoes, and fresh herbs. Using a hand blender, blend the mixture until smooth and creamy. Add heavy cream if using.

  • Top with parmesan cheese, croutons, or a drizzle of heavy cream.

House tours are available this Sunday; donations are appreciated.
